I graduated with honours in 2016 from the Master programme in Biochemistry at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, UNAM), my bachelor degree is in Biology, granted as well by the UNAM. In Mexico, at the Institute of Biotechnology, UNAM, I was part of the “Sperm Physiology Lab”. There I was focused in understanding the interaction between cyclic nucleotides and the protein domain CNBD. In order to do that, I developed a FRET-binding assay using chemically modified cAMP and protein fusions of the CNBDs with different fluorescent proteins. The outcomes of that project were two publications in international journals (FEBS letters and Biotechniques), and my bachelor and master thesis. During my stay in the lab I also participated in another project that was focused on understanding the selectivity pore properties of the sperm-specific Ca2+ ion channel, and part of that work was published in the journal Cell Calcium. I have been always interested in cell-to-cell communication and Ca2+ signalling, and now at the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência I am trying to disclose the mechanisms that regulate sperm motility and chemotaxis in Physcomitrella antherozoids (moss sperm), from the sensing of the chemical cue that will guide the sperm to the egg, to the transduction of the signal inside the cell, and the nature of the downstream cellular messengers.

2018/03/12 - 2019/03/15 Organization of the 13th Annual Meeting of Gulbenkian Students (AMeeGuS). All the members of the committee shared the responsibility of selecting the venue, contacting the invited speakers and the allocation of oral and poster presentations of the students. My main responsibility was to coordinate the travel of the participants and ensuring their attendance. We were also in charge of the social events in the Institute, as fundraising events for our retreat and charity, international food festivals and beer hours. (2019/03/12 - 2019/03/15)
