Indrani Coondoo is currently working as a contracted Researcher at CICECO-Aveiro Institute of Materials, University of Aveiro (UA), Portugal. She earned her PhD in Applied Physics in 2008 from University of Delhi, India. She is a recipient of the highly competitive national level CSIR-UGC doctoral fellowship grant. She started her research career as a Project assistant on a DST-funded project at National Physical lab (NPL), India, and worked on liquid crystals (LCs). Later, on winning a CSIR grant, she was appointed as Research Associate at NPL. She tailored functional properties in LCs by doping ferroelectric nanoparticles. While at NPL, she co-invented an LC-based optical memory device, which was granted a US patent (US 8994911B2) in 2015. Thereafter, she worked as a Visiting Researcher for a year at the Univ of Puerto Rico, USA, where she investigated multiferroic thin films grown by RF sputtering & pulsed laser deposition (PLD) methods. In 2011, she joined CICECO, UA on an FCT-funded project as a postdoc fellow and studied ferroelectric films deposited by PLD for optoelectronics. Later, she won an individual FCT grant for her project on development of lead-free piezoelectric materials for energy harvesting application (SFRH/BPD/81032/2011) and started a six-year postdoctoral term from 2012. She gained expertise in various wet-chemical synthesis methods and scanning probe microscopy techniques (nanoscale piezo-/magnetic-response). Since 2019, she is a contracted Researcher (UID/CTM/50011/2019) at CICECO, UA. Her research expanded to include ceramic and polymer composites for energy storage and solid-state cooling applications. In 2021, she won a FCT project as PI (EXPL/CTM-CTM/0687/2021) on the development of multifunctional polymer nanocomposite films for energy storage & electrocaloric cooling applications. More recently, her interest grew towards additive manufacturing techniques to develop 3D printed piezoelectric composites. During her career, Dr. Coondoo gained multidisciplinary skills in areas such as material science, nanotechnology and soft materials. She immensely gained from research mobility across various international research labs in Portugal, Spain, Japan, USA and India and has built transnational collaborations with R&D groups based in Portugal, USA, Spain, Italy, UK, France, Japan, Russia & India. She participated in several projects & has supervised/trained 5 masters,2 postdoc,2 PhD and 1 PhD exchange student. She has published 69 papers (1st/corresponding author in 50%) with 5 conference papers. She edited 4 books, authored 4 book chapters and has 53 conference presentations (5 invited/keynote talks, 14 oral, 34 poster) with two `best poster´ awards. A review article on piezoelectric materials she authored is one of the most cited articles of the J Advanced Dielectrics. This body of work has garnered about 1450 citations and an h-index of 23 (Scopus). Besides, she is on editorial board of 6 journals (J Adv Diele/Prabha Mat Sc Lett/Frontiers/Nanomat Sc Eng etc) and guest-edited 7 journal special issues. During 2022-2024, she organized four workshops, chaired sessions during conferences and has been on the organizing committee of several international conferences such as ISAF conference (Univ Aveiro), ISIF conference (Univ Puerto Rico, USA), ICNMSME (Univ Aveiro), NTRIA 2023 (UA), among others. Her results on co-doped BFO thin films featured as cover page of Materials Research Bulletin [47 (12) 2012]. She did scientific missions to Japan and Spain. She won a COST Actions grant for a Short-Term Scientific Mission. She is a life-member of Indian Science Congress Association. She is reviewer for several journals including Nano Energy, Scientific Reports, J Alloys Comp, J Amer Ceram Soc etc. Her research interests include multifunctional materials (bulk, thin film, polymers & nanostructures) for application in energy harvesting, magneto-/electrocaloric cooling, energy storage, sensors & actuators.

Performed exclusive low-energy Raman spectroscopy and micro-Brillouin scattering measurements on samples of the aurivillius compound strontium bismuth tantalate.
