Prof. James Serpell completed his PhD in Veterinary Science in 1979 by the University of Liverpool, Institute of Veterinary Science. Prof. Serpell did his MSc in Zoology in 1975 (Monash University) and a Bachelor degree in Zoology in 1974 (University College London, Department of Science and Technology Studies). Prof Serpell is the director of the Center for the Interaction with Animals and Society (CIAS) at the University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine. He is a Full Professor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. Research Interests: Behaviour and welfare of dogs and cats; development of indirect methods of behavioural measurement in domesticated animals; development of human attitudes to animals; history, evolution and societal impact of human-animal relationships; animal and veterinary ethics.
