Filipa Martins hold a BSc degree in Biology, a MSc in Molecular Biomedicine and concluded her doctoral degree in Biomedicine by University of Aveiro and NOVA University of Lisbon in 2017 with and honourable mention, performed in collaboration with the Cell Signalling in Neurodegeneration laboratory, Ruhr-Universität - Bochum, Germany. In June 2017, she joined the Molecular Basis of Neuropathologies group at Institute of Biomedicine as a postdoctoral researcher with a fellowship in the scope of the project 'pAGE: protein aggregation across lifespan’ and have focused her research on the pathophysiology of aging and age-related diseases, namely in neurodegeneration. In 2022, Filipa started a new position as a Researcher (and co-PI) within the project 'BRI2 role in neuronal differentiation and the underlying molecular mechanisms: towards an innovative regenerative therapy for Alzheimer's Disease' where she had the opportunity to go abroad as Visiting Researcher at Neurovascular Research Group, Cajal Institute, Madrid, Spain. During the last 12 years, Filipa developed a solid background in Cell and Molecular Biology and Neurosciences and proven experience in several laboratory techniques, namely in mammalian cell culture, including preparation and maintenance of primary neuronal cells, and cell transfection. Importantly, Filipa is Principal Investigator of a European Proteomics Infrastructure Consortium (EPIC-XS) funded project in collaboration with Dr Javier Muñoz from Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Oncológicas (CNIO). She is also co-Principal Investigator of an FCT-funded project (250K) in collaboration with Dr Simone Tambaro from Karolinska Institutet (KI) and Dr Ricardo Martínez Murillo from Cajal Institute and participated as team member actively engaged on the execution and management in 8 other funded projects (2 ongoing). In total, Filipa authors 23 full papers in international peer review journals, with more than 400 citations and an h-index of 10 (Science Citation Index Expanded of Web of Science). She is author in 4 book chapters, received 5 awards, supervised 9 MSc students, 2 PhD student (ongoing) and given non-official supervision to several students during their MSc and PhD. She was also involved in pedagogical activities, being an Invited Assistant and guest lecturer in classes from the BSc in Biomedical Sciences and MSc in Molecular Biomedicine at University of Aveiro from 2012 to 2024. Besides, Filipa collaborated in the organization of scientific meetings and in several science dissemination activities to non-scientific audiences.
