Carmen Brás-Silva is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto. She obtained her PhD in Human Biology from the University of Porto, Portugal, in April 2007. She is a member of the Associated Laboratory RISE - Health Research Network and of the UnIC - Cardiovascular R&D Centre, and she leads the research line on Pulmonary Hypertension and Right Ventricular Function at UnIC. Her current research interests mainly focus on integrative cardiovascular physiology, particularly the study of pharmacological and nutritional modulation of cardiopulmonary pathophysiology. Specifically, her research interests include: - Investigating cardiac autocrine/paracrine activation in pulmonary arterial hypertension and heart failure. - Exploring the role, underlying signal transduction pathways, and potential therapeutic properties of novel neurohumoral factors (e.g., neuregulin, urocortin), as well as antimiR strategies, in addition to well-known systems (ET-1, Ang II), in the context of pulmonary hypertension and the progression to right and left ventricular dysfunction. She has contributed to over 50 scientific publications (full-text) in the cardiovascular field and has been involved in 37 National and European research projects, 17 of which as a Principal Investigator.
