I am currently hired as a junior researcher in the research project "SINCRONY: interSectIonal iNClusion in delibeRation and participatiON with Youth" (Horizon Europe, GAP-101132459), and I am a full member of the Centro de Investigação e Intervenção Educativas (CIIE) of the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Porto. I have been previously involved in national (FCT) and European (Erasmus+) funded projects, mainly in the fields of History, Education and Psychology. Within these fields, I have studied a wide variety of topics, such as authoritarian and fascist regimes, the collective memory of the Portuguese dictatorship, early childhood teachers’ well-being and pre-school children’s Positive Behaviour Support. My main research focus, however, is on critical thinking processes and on how they can be promoted through Education. Related to this topic, I have also explored the role of emotions in young people’s critical civic and political engagement. More specifically, I have studied how emotional involvement can influence secondary students’ critical thinking and political attitudes regarding specific sociopolitical topics. My PhD thesis included five papers, published in high-ranking journals in Education, and has received attention by the National Directorate of Education, when it was published in the form of an opinion article, summarizing the outcomes of my PhD research, in the NOESIS magazine. Additionally, I was one of the coordinators of a book about the collective memory of Past political regimes in Europe and South America and published several book chapters about many of the previously mentioned topics. I have extensive experience in fieldwork with teachers and students and in designing and implementing interventions in educational settings, as well as in using qualitative and quantitative methods to measure their effects.
