Maria das Neves Gomes is an FCT and Fulbright doctoral researcher, member of the Centre for Classical Studies of the University of Lisbon and visiting researcher at the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures of Princeton University. She currently conducts research on classical reception in Russian poetry of the early twentieth century, under the supervision of José Pedro Serra (University of Lisbon) and Michael Wachtel (Princeton University). She has a summa cum laude MSc in History and Philosophy of Science (FCUL, 2023), with a dissertation on the life and work of eighteenth-century physician Ribeiro Sanches, supervised by Francisco Malta Romeiras and Henrique Leitão, and defended before Michael D. Gordin (Princeton University). She has a summa cum laude BA in General Studies (FLUL, 2019), with a major in Philosophy and a minor in Classics (Ancient Greek and Latin languages). She works with Portuguese, English, French, Spanish, Russian, Italian, Ancient Greek, Latin, German, Sanskrit and Arabic sources, by degree of fluency. She worked for four years at the independent publishing company Relógio D'Água, which she left in 2023 to become a full-time researcher, integrating the team of Rutter: Making the Earth Global, a project financed by European Research Council (ERC AdG 833438), the international group CHORUS (Colloquium for the History of Russian and Soviet Science), moderated by Slava Gerovitch (MIT), and becoming a member of the Society for Classical Studies. She has also worked as a tutor in the non-profit association Realiza 2785, financed by the Cascais City Council, and as a freelance translator, editor, copy editor and publishing consultant. She has received a Fulbright grant (2024-2025), an FCT doctoral grant (2023-2027), a DGES merit scholarship (2020), a Moscow State University scholarship (2016), and a few merit awards, among which FLUL's Excellentiae charta (2019) and a merit award by the Cascais City Council (2015). She has volunteered for CASA-Centro de Apoio ao Sem Abrigo, for Médicos do Mundo and for the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Cascais.
