Luis M. Madeira graduated in Chemical Engineering (1993) and received his PhD (1998) from the Technical University of Lisbon (Portugal) in Heterogeneous Catalysis. He joined the Faculty of Engineering - University of Porto (FEUP) in 1999 where is presently Full Professor in the Chemical Engineering Department. He is, since July 2023, the Scientific Coordinator of the research unit LEPABE (https://www.lepabe.fe.up.pt/), and was Director of Studies of the Integrated Master in Chemical Engineering / Bachelor in Chemical Engineering and Master in Chemical Engineering (till 2023) at FEUP where he teaches mainly Chemical Reaction Engineering courses and Chemical Engineering Laboratories. L.M. Madeira is member of the Working Parties on Chemical Reaction Engineering (WPCRE) and Education (WPE) from the European Federation of Chemical Engineering (EFCE). He was awarded the Pedagogical Excellence Prize in 2015/16 and the Scientific Excellence Prize in 2020, both by FEUP, and the Air Liquide Scientific Scientific Challenge 2023, in the topic "Energy storage using essential small molecules". His main research interests include multifunctional reactors (sorptive-based, membrane-based, etc.), H2 production and purification technologies (e.g. reforming, water-gas shift), CO2 capture and valorisation (e.g. CO2 methanation), and the use of Advanced Oxidation Processes for the treatment of gases and water/wastewater. L.M. Madeira authored/co-authored >220 articles in peer-reviewed internationals journals (h-index of 49; source: Scopus, January 2024) and co-authored over 220 communications in conference proceedings. He has considerable experience in participating in research projects, either as a coordinator or as a member of the team, including national and EU funding projects (a total of about 40 projects). He was/is the coordinator/advisor of 16 postdoc level researchers, 30 PhD students (22 theses already completed), 5 of them in companies, and 50 dissertations of master students.
