P Paradiso graduated in Material Engineering with a double Master School within Politecnico di Milano, Italy and IST, Universisdade de Lisboa, Portugal (final score 102/110) in 2009. In 2010 was awarded by FCT with a PhD grant in Material Engineering, at IST (2010). During her PhD, which was completed with distinction in 2015, she focused on the characterization and investigation of the drug release from hydrogel materials for ophthalmic use. Along her PhD, she participated in two R&D projects(M-ERA.NET/0005/2012 and Luso-German Integrated Actions 2012 reference A-29/12)and had the privilege of collaborating and networking with many international researchers, which allowed her to learn different techniques and the value of working as part of a larger team. In detail, she used confocal fluorescence microscope to study the properties of polyelectrolites layers on hydrogels while working in the lab of Prof. Rumen Krastev at the Naturwissenschaftliches und Medizinisches Institut an der Universität, Tübingen, Germany;and modelled the vitamin E effect on drug release from commercial eye lenses at the University of Florida,USA,under the supervision of Prof. Anuj Chauhan. Since her graduation she published 14 scientific articles in international peer review journals, such as the Acta Materialia with IF= 6.036, and participated to 14 oral conference communications, accumulating an h index of 9. At the end of 2015 she joined the Nanocimento project AD0031.1/2016 at IDMEC-IST, where she investigates new eco-sustainable cementitious materials. With this field shift, her expertise and scientific background contribuited to Nanocimento with an innovative line of cement characterization at the nano-scale. At the same time, thanks to the established collaborations within the excelent research group of CIMPOR, IST, and the academic Nanocimento, she improved and wide her scientific knowledge as a Material Engineer. In September 2016 she spent three productive weeks in the Concrete Sustainability Hub, led by Prof. Franz Ulm, MIT,US. In this group, focused on the investigation of cement and concrete from the nanoscale up to the macro, she acquired new skills about micro and nano mechanical characterization of cementitious materials, which were applied and gave results which will be soon published in the Scripta Materialia (under minor review at the moment). In June 2017, at “The International Scientific Symposium « The Future of Cement » in Paris, she orally presented the first results obtained with the Nanocimento project. The talk was received with interest by the audience and positively marked her first step as a researcher in the cement arena. The same results were then published in 2018 in Acta Materialia (IF= 6.036) as the "Formation of nanocrystalline tobermorite in calcium silicate binders with low C/S ratio”, a molecular simulation study and HR-TEM analysis of a new cementitious phases, which was the results of successful cooperation with Prof. José Canongia,CQE-IST, and with Prof. Paulo Ferreira, INL, Braga. In 2018 she took a specializing course on advanced HR-TEM, which she finished with 18/20 (Sept-Dec 2018). In 2019 she collaborated actively to the formation of the C5LAB- Sustainable Construction Materials COLAB, which was afterward rewarded by FCT with 5M€. At the moment she is the responsible of the NanoMatLab at IDMEC, a laboratory focused on nanocharacterization, and she is the supervisor of Master students Final Thesis and of a PhD student Monica Antunes, who is investigating low calcium hydraulic binders. In the fall semester of 2019 she was invited by Prof. Virginia Infante as Assistant Professor for the Mechanical properties course (IDMEC). In February 2020 she attended a Workshop - Pedagogical Skills for Teaching Assistants. She was invited by Prof. Emilia Rosa to be Assistant Professor for the course Material Science (spring semester 2020). In May 2020 she enters the C5LAB Colab as a PosDoc researcher.
