PhD in Eco Construction and Rehabilitation (2020) from the University of Minho with the thesis "Modelling the life cycle performance of Portuguese vernacular buildings: assessment and contribution for sustainable construction" (awarded 1st prize ex aequo in 1st edition of Architecture, Sustainability and Innovation Awards - thesis category (2021), promoted by the Portuguese Architects Association and the Environmental Fund Programme from the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Action). MSc (2012) in Sustainable Construction and Rehabilitation by University of Minho with the thesis "The contribution of Portuguese vernacular architecture to the sustainability of constructions" (in Portuguese). Graduated in architecture from the University of Évora where he gained practice in research with the development of the dissertation "Passive Cooling in Évora's traditional architecture". Between 2007 and 2012, he worked in the architecture office "Solar Trap - architecture, energy and ecology", where he collaborated in the design of sustainable construction projects. He is a Qualified Expert in the Portuguese Building Sustainability Assessment System - SBToolPT, an assessor of the Portuguese voluntary system for assessing the environmental performance of buildings - LiderA, and has know-how in the Portuguese Energy and Indoor Air Certification System in Buildings. He is a member of the International Initiative for a Sustainable Built Environment (iiSBE) and the Associação Centro da Terra (Portuguese association dedicated to promoting earthen construction) (member of the direction board 2016-2023). He is currently a post-doc researcher at the University of Minho, Institute for Sustainability and Innovation in Structural Engineering (ISISE), where is conducting research on the study of sustainability principles of vernacular architecture and exploring new ways of integrating those principles into modern buildings, and on the development of low-carbon materials and technologies towards a circular and regenerative built environment. Research interests: Vernacular/traditional architecture; Sustainable construction; Sustainable building technologies; Climate-responsive strategies; Low-carbon materials; Energy efficiency and simulation; Circular Materials; Life-cycle assessment. He has authored and co-authored several publications on the above-mentioned topics.
