I obtained the Applied Biology Degree at University of Minho, Braga, Portugal in 2007 investigating the toxicity of the herbicides metolachlor and alachlor on bacterial model, Bacillus stearothermophilus and membrane model system of lipossomes of DPPC. In 2009, I completed the Master's in Cellular and Molecular Biology, University of Coimbra, Portugal, studying the "In vivo effects of 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) on heart and liver mitochondrial bioenergetics and ATP-sensitive potassium channels" published on Top 2% in Medicine/General Medicine. I obtained the Ph.D. degree at the University of Coimbra, Portugal in 2016 researching the "Programming of fetal cardio-renal mitochondria by maternal nutrition" publishing two seminal papers on Top 5% Medicine/General Medicine explaining the "Effects of Moderate Global Maternal Nutrient Reduction on Fetal Baboon Renal Mitochondrial Gene Expression at 0.9 Gestation" and the "Sex dependent vulnerability of fetal nonhuman primate cardiac mitochondria to moderate maternal nutrient reduction", revealing the causal relationship between nutrition during pregnancy and the development of diabetes and cardio-renal dysfunction later in life in a baboon model. In this context, I spent 24 months working at both the university of Texas Health Science Center and, Laramie. In 2017 I joined Dr. José Magalhães laboratory at the Research Center in Physical Activity, health and Leisure, University of Porto, Portugal to study whether maternal exercise during gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) can prevent the development of cardiometabolic disease in the offspring. Our lab was one of the first labs implementing a GDM rat model in Portugal and studying the cardiac implications for the offspring. In 2021 I joined the project PERInatal MYocardial Remodelling (PERIMYR) with Dr. Inês Falcão Pires from the Faculty of Medicine at University of Porto, to predict the cardiovascular risk of GDM offspring using umbilical cord tissue. In order to accomplish this goal, I am building a multifaceted and international team collaborating with Dr Ursula Hiden, from the PlacentaLab at Graz, Austria, Dr Luis Sobrevia at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Chile and Dr Elena Zambrano from the Instituto Nacional de Nutrition, Mexico in order to perform cohesive and disruptive science. In summary, I am a researcher performing novel and creative science who is positively influence the development of the Developmental Origins of Health and Disease field in Portugal, I am also an enthusiastic of developing innovative and effective ways to engage society in science, improving science literacy and education. So far, despite 2 maternity leaves, I co-authored 40 full-length original articles published in peer reviewed journals, with 15 in top 10% (including 3 top 2% and 6 top 5%) 31 in top 25%, 8 first author, 13 last author, 14 corresponding author, 2 first author book chapter, with >1000 citations and h-index 19 (google scholar). I performed 67 oral communications (12 invited); 87 poster presentations; 74 abstracts in conference proceedings and received 30 awards and honors. I prioritize teaching young students and knowledge dissemination. This is shown by my previous experience, organizing 24 scientific meetings, 14 outreach science activities and attending more than 50 advanced courses. I scientifically co-supervised 25 students; performed 14 teaching activities and participated in 11 scientific societies. I broaden my knowledge collaborating in 25 research team projects, with solid international collaborations and acting as an ad-hoc reviewer in different publications including Circulation Research (IF 17.4, Top 2%), Aspects of Molecular Medicine (IF 16.34, Top 1%) and Antioxidants & Redox Signaling (IF 8.40, Top 5%) being the main opponent in 4 PhD thesis final defense and 7 Master thesis.
