João Miguel Serras Dias holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Aveiro (2022) and a Master’s degree in Engineering Physics (2016) also from the University of Aveiro. He started his professional career as a R&D Engineer at Indisol S.A. in 2016, where he was responsible for the development and testing of medium and high voltage sensors. In 2017, he joined the Centre from Mechanical Technology and Automation (TEMA) as a Research Fellow, and in 2023 became an effective member. In 2019, he was awarded a PhD scholarship from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), having developed his PhD Thesis in heat pumps for space and water heating. His main research interests include Applied Energy, Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, and Heat and Mass Transfer. His research is currently targeted to the heat pump technology through modelling, simulation, development, and analysis of heat pump systems. In the last 5 years he has carried out activities as a Researcher and Professor. He has participated in the Smart Green Homes project and in the Illiance Agenda, both projects being a collaboration between Bosch Thermotechnology and the University of Aveiro. In these projects he contributed to the research and development of innovative heat pumps. His research results led to several scientific publications in international journals and presentations in scientific conferences. In addition to his research activities, he also has been an Invited Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Aveiro, where he lectured 3 courses: Fluid Mechanics, Computational Fluid Mechanics, and Technical Drawing. From 2017 to 2019, he helped lecturing 2 courses, Thermal Engineering and Thermal Systems Project.
