Gracinda Maria Martins Sanches Fernandes is an experienced Chemical Engineer, member of The Order of Engineers (Biotechnology and Chemistry College), with more than 20 years of professional experience with strong management expertise, namely as General Manager and Production Manager in multinational companies (Tate & Lyle, PepsiCo). She is also an experienced researcher as she started her scientific studies in 1996 at Instituto Superior Técnico with Professors Francisco Lemos and Fernando Ramôa Ribeiro. Since 2017, Gracinda Sanches Fernandes is a PhD Candidate in Biotechnology and Biosciences, being her research centred in Microbiome Therapy in Aquaculture making use of Polymerase Chain Reaction, Next Generation Sequencing (Illumina platform), metagenomics, metagenetics and bioinformatics platforms to understand the role of the fish microbiome in host development. Gracinda Sanches Fernandes was also responsible for the elaboration and presentation of manufacturing industry companies' Business Plans, all approved by PME Investments (venture capital company subject to the supervision of the Bank of Portugal). She possesses also other competences such as Lead Auditor for Food Safety and Quality Assurance Audits (Portugal, Spain, United Kingdom, Hungary and Belgium) and project partner with companies such as Bureau Veritas (Quality Assurance and Food Safety), Epal (water potability), Fapajal/ University of Lisbon ¿ Instituto Superior Técnico (R&D biomass/biofuels) and Biopremier (accredited analysis for agri-food, clinical, veterinary and pharmaceutical sectors). She is also a Certified Trainer (Trainer Professional Ability Certification), with more than 850 hours of training given in Portugal, Spain, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
