Joana Figueiredo holds a Degree in Biology and Geology and a Master's degree in Applied Ecology, both awarded by University of Aveiro. She participated as a research fellow (Master’s grant) in 2 projects: SMARTAQUA and NANOGREEN. The main research interests have been related to the assessment of efficacy, ecotoxicity and hazard of innovative nanomaterials to control societal problems (e.g. corrosion, fouling). She is a (co)author of 9 papers in indexed journals, 18 poster communications and 4 oral communications and participates(d) in 4 national and international R&D projects. She has experience in the evaluation of the ecotoxicity and hazard of nanomaterials to marine species, evaluation of the sub-lethal effects of chemical compounds (biomarkers) and maintenance of cultures of marine organisms in the laboratory. She also has experience in techniques for characterizing and evaluating the behavior of nanomaterials (e.g. HPLC, SEM, DLS, Zeta Potential).
