At Cardiff University, after obtaining a B.Sc. in Psychology and M.Sc. in Social Science Research Methods, Richard Inman completed his doctoral thesis in the area of associative conditioning. This experience taught him the principles underlying how animals and people learn, and how that learning is expressed in behavior. For his doctoral work, he won two awards. The following year, he worked as a research assistant at the Institute of Psychological Medicine & Clinical Neurosciences, Cardiff University. He then moved to Portugal and started a program of post-doctoral research, integrated within two longitudinal FCT-funded projects, at Universidade Lusíada Porto (ULP). From this work, he learned that human functioning depends on systems of learning and memory and can be conceptualized and operationalized in terms of how individuals shape and adapt to an ever-changing environment. Thus, he came to appreciate the need to study within-person processes. Critically, during his time as a post-doc, he was able to dedicate his time to research fully. This gave him a unique opportunity to specialize in statistical analysis and scientific writing. In early 2022, he achieved the permanent position of Lecturer (Assistant Professor) at ULP, where, in addition to participating in and leading research projects as a Principal Investigator, he teaches the Research Methods and Data Analysis module for the Applied Psychology: Health and Wellbeing Ph.D. course and supervises student projects (currently supervisor of 3 Ph.D. students). He also has various administrative/managerial roles, including serving on his research center (CIPD) Direction Board and coordinating its Wellbeing, Health, and Adaptive Processes Laboratory. He is also the newly appointed Research Integrity Officer at ULP. Beyond his duties at ULP, he is also a Review Editor for the journal Frontiers in Psychology and a member of APA Division 5: Quantitative and Qualitative Methods.
