Susana Isabel Ferreira Silva Sá completed her PhD in Neurosciences in 2011 by the University of Porto, Faculty of Medicine; her MSc in Morphology in 2010 by the University of Porto, Faculty of Medicine and the License degree in Biology (Scientific Field) in 2000 by the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto. She has a Postgraduation on the CAJAL Certificate in Neuronal Cell Biology - Cytoskeleton and Trafficking in 2016, Bordeaux Neurocampus. She is an Assistant Professor, in the area of Anatomy, at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto, having taught Anatomy and Neuroanatomy in Integrated Masters in Medicine and Dental Medicine; in the License Degree in Nutrition Sciences, at the University of Porto and in License degree in Nursing and Physiotherapy at the Santa Maria School of Nursing, in Porto. From 2012 to 2016, she was the Responsible Teacher of the UC of Human Anatomy I (CN11001), of the License degree in Nutritional Sciences from the Faculty of Nutrition and Food Sciences from University of Porto. From 2016 to 2018, she was the Responsible Teacher of the UC of Morphophysiology of the Reproductive and Endocrine Systems (MI220) of the Integrated Master in Medicine and is currently the Responsible Teacher of the UC of Anatomy I (MD1101), of the Integrated Master of Dental Medicine of the Faculty of Dental Medicine of the University of Porto. She is also part of the teaching team of the Doctoral Program in Neuroscience (PDN_5207) and of the Master in Neurobiology (MNB_M819), both from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto. She is an integrated member of the CINTESIS R&D Unit (Research Center in Health Technologies and Services) and a collaborating member of the IINFACTS R&D Unit (Institute for Research and Advanced Training in Health Sciences and Technologies). Her scientific activity is centered on the modulation of the central nervous system by steroid hormones, its action on endocrine regulation, response and neuronal connectivity and modulation of the behavioral response. Their studies refer to the action of sex hormones in modulating the neuronal and behavioral response, in areas such as the hypothalamus/ preoptic area and hippocampal formation. The works aim at understanding the neuronal mechanisms and circuits that trigger behavioral and cognitive responses dependent on steroid hormones and in which way some drugs such as tamoxifen and cannabinoids may affect the female brain. She published 22 articles in specialized magazines, with almost half in Q1 (10% of the publications in the Top5%), with an average if of 3,2 and 180 citations. She has a h-index of 9 and has more than 40 revisions. She directed 8 Master's dissertations and 1 PhD student. She participates and/or participated as Research Fellow in 1 project, Researcher in 1 project and Scientific Initiation Fellow in 1 project. She works in the areas of Medical and Health Sciences with an emphasis on Basic Medicine with an emphasis on Neurosciences.
