My research journey began with a deep interest in genetics and molecular biology, which led me to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Biology with a focus on Genetics and Molecular Biology at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon. It was during this time that my fascination with the regulation of cellular processes deepened, setting the stage for my future work. Following my MSc in Biotechnology and Cell Biology, I embarked on a research internship at the Genetics department of the National Health Institute, where I delved into the effects of BRAF oncogenes and Rac1b GTPase on gene expression in human colon cells. This project sparked my enduring interest in oncobiology and the mechanisms behind cancer progression. My PhD marked a pivotal phase of my career, where I focused on the regulation of glucose uptake in mammalian cells as part of the BioSYS Doctoral program. Working with the Gene Expression and Regulation group, I studied protein phosphorylation networks and how they influence cellular metabolism. These years were both challenging and rewarding, as I developed a deep understanding of the molecular underpinnings of cancer metabolism and signaling pathways. Upon completing my PhD, I transitioned into postdoctoral research roles, first at the Computational and Experimental Biology Lab, where I investigated the deregulation of B-cell pathways in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. This work contributed to our understanding of immune evasion mechanisms in tumors, which could eventually inform therapeutic strategies. Currently, I am a Postdoctoral Researcher at BioISI, working with the Cystic Fibrosis Research Group. My focus is on understanding disease signatures in nonsense mutations, which holds promise for improving therapies. In this role, I have had the privilege of training MSc and PhD students while managing the lab, contributing to both the scientific and educational missions of the institution. I have been honored to receive 4 awards and/or honors. In professional activities I've interacted with 75 collaborator(s) co-authorship of scientific papers.
