Marta Isabel dos Santos Veríssimo Amaral (MV) graduated from UA in 1998 with a degree in Analytical Chemistry, scoring the highest final grade (15 out of 20) in her class. She was awarded an FCT scholarship and proceeded to pursue her PhD studies, gaining experience in a variety of areas such as ceramics and materials, electronics, programming, and analytical chemistry. In May 2003, MV completed her PhD in Chemistry with unanimous approval for her thesis on the Analytical Applications of Mass Sensors Based on Different Piezoelectric Substrates. She was awarded three FCT post-doctoral fellowships from 2004 to 20018. From 2019 until February 2024, she worked as an Assistant Researcher at the Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies (CESAM) at the University of Aveiro (UA). Currently, MV is a Senior Technician at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Aveiro (DQ/UA). She has authored 27 papers in highly ranked international journals, 82% of which are Q1, with 15 of them ranking in the top 5. She has been the first author on 20 of these papers and the corresponding author on two. Scopus reported that the author has an h-index of 12 and 376 citations as of April 2024. Additionally, she has presented her work at 29 national and international conferences, with nine of them being oral presentations, one of which was an invited presentation. Since 2000, she has been an integrated member of CESAM, an Associate Laboratory of the UA. From 2014 to 2018, she was also an integrated member of the Aveiro Institute of Materials (CICECO), which is an Associate Laboratory of the UA. During the last few years, she has participated in scientific outreach activities such as TechDays2019 and Open Campus UA 2015 and 2019. Furthermore, she co-hosted a course on "Introduction to Sensors - Ibersensor" in September 2021. In 2022, she was involved in organizing ISOEN 2022 (https://www.isoen2022.org/) and IBERSENSOR 2022 (https://ibersensor2022.events.chemistry.pt/), two international congresses on sensors held in Aveiro, Portugal. She also published a book entitled "A Look at Sensors in the Iberian Peninsula and Latin America: Year 2022" (UA) and acted as a guest editor for a "Sensors" special issue entitled "Sensors for Environmental Threats".
