Susana Novais graduated in Biomedical Engineering. In February 2019, she received the Ph.D. degree in Physics Engineering with honors and distinction from Aveiro University, Portugal. The research work developed during her Ph.D. relied on the development of new fibre optic solutions. She completed two short missions, the first in Scotland at Johnson Matthey Battery Systems Company, and the second one in Germany at the Helmholtz Institute. She has already participated in 7 projects, both National and European, and in April 2019, she joined the Center for Applied Photonics at INESC TEC as an Assistant Researcher, working on the FCT project ENDOR (POCI-01-0145-FEDER-029724), integrating as a key partner the Portuguese Oncology Institute of Porto. She has published more than 60 papers in international journals, book chapters, and conference proceedings, with an Index10 out of 14 points. In addition to her publications, she also serves as a reviewer for international scientific journals, including Springer, IEEE, and Elsevier. She was the Local Organizer and Technical Chair of the European Optical Society Annual Meeting (EOSAM 2022), one of the largest international scientific conferences on optics and photonics, which took place at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto. Additionally, she was part of the Committee for the 5th International Conference on Application of Optics and Photonics and will participate as a TPC member in the IEEE International Conference on Communications, which will take place in June 2024 in Denver, Colorado. She was the main examiner in several MSc jury in Biomedical Engineering and Physics Engineering and is part of the jury for the best thesis in optics and photonics in Portugal. Her field expertise lies in optical fibre sensors applied to lithium-ion batteries, optical fibre designs, and their applications in challenging media. Her current research interests are new optical fibre sensors for biomedical and environmental applications. As a young researcher, she seeks to be responsible, ambitious, collaborative, and strives to be pragmatic and autonomous in the performance of her duties to achieve the proposed objectives successfully. She feels highly motivated and is always willing to be at the forefront of the constant learning and discovery that is Science, always trying to promote the well-being of Society.
