Since 2023, Marina Ventura Rodrigues has been a postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology, University of Coimbra. She holds a BSc in Biology (University of Coimbra) and a MSc in Cell and Molecular Biology, with specialization in Neurobiology (University of Coimbra). In 2017, she was awarded a PhD fellowship from Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia. She is interested in the field of Neuroscience, particularly in understanding how slight perturbations of the neurodevelopmental timeline can give rise to pathological conditions. Currently, Marina is developing a postdoctoral project on a new mechanism involved in the regulation and control of neuronal excitability in health and disease. She supervised more than 10 short-stay traineeships, coordinated their work and ensured all milestones were met. She has been co-supervisor of 2 master thesis students and is currently a co-supervisor of a PhD candidate. She is an expert in potassium currents, with recognised knowledge of M-currents electrophysiology as she has already been invited as an electrophysiology instructor in national and international advanced courses. Marina Rodrigues has presented her work in more than 10 scientific meetings and has been awarded 7 prizes, being the last one for best oral communication. She actively participates in grant writing helping in attracting more than 800k to her home lab. She is committed to science communication activities and has participated in Brain Awareness Week, European Researchers' Night, Brain Gain or ciência viva initiatives. Marina is a highly dedicated and promising young scientist aiming to contribute to better fundamental knowledge that translates into better medical care for patients with brain illness.
