Mariana Vaz. Graduated in Marine Biology and Biotechnology in 2019, and Master in Aquaculture in 2022, by the Escola Superior de Turismo e Tecnologia do Mar (Peniche), Polytechnic of Leiria. I was a research fellow (MARE, Polytechnic of Leiria) in the European project BE4AQUAHEALTH: national screening of aquaculture fish pathologies: a commitment to prevention. I have published 3 articles in reputable journals of the MDPI group (open access), and is one of the authors of the book "Principais Patógenos Que Afetam Peixes Cultivados em Portugal" (open access). I was a university teacher in the practical curricular unit of Pathology and Immunology taught at the master's degree in Aquaculture, and in the practical curricular unit of Animal Welfare, taught at the Professional Technical Course - Production and Maintenance of Aquatic Organisms. She was the author of 1 scientific poster and co-author of 2 scientific posters. I was a research fellow (MARE - Polytechnic of Leiria) of the LUCTA project - Evaluation of the effect of extracts on an infection of sea bass with nodavirus, which has allowed more knowledge in molecular biology techniques, biomarkers of oxidative stress, study of hematological parameters and immune response to a viral infection. I am currently a PhD student (CIIMAR – Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research, University of Porto and University of Bergen, Norway) in the European project GRINNAQUA "Green innovation strategies for animal health management: towards sustainable aquaculture". Where I study the role of methionine in the immunological defenses of fish (Atlantic salmon and rainbow trout) against viral (viral hemorrhagic septicemia virus) and parasitic (sea lice) infections.
