My name is Javier Peralta and I was born in Algeciras (1979, Spain). I graduated in Physics at the University of La Laguna (Spain) in 2003, specializing in the fields of Astrophysics and Applied Physics. In 2009, I got an European PhD degree in Physics at the University of the Basque Country (Spain) with the highest qualification ("Cum Laude"), also awarded with the “Extraordinary Prize of Doctorate” in 2012. After my PhD, I spent the last 15 years (2009-2024) working in different institutions as postdoctoral researcher: 2 years at IAA/CSIC in Granada (Spain), 3 years at the Astronomical Observatory of Lisbon (CAAUL/OAL, Portugal), 5 years at the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science of Japan (ISAS/JAXA), and more than 2 year at the University of Seville (current position). Concerning my scientific production, I published 53 articles in peer-reviewed journals (18 as lead author), 6 conference papers, 5 scientific-technical reports, and presented more than 130 contributions in international congresses, workshops and courses. My works had an important impact, receiving more than 1300 citations (619 excluding self-citations), with more than 380 citations belonging to papers in which I was the lead author, and about 65% of my articles are in the top 25% of the most cited documents worldwide (ref. Scopus). As lead author, I would highlight 3 papers published in Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series, 1 in Nature Astronomy and 4 in Geophysical Research Letters. I also co-authored 1 paper in Nature, 1 in Science, 2 in Nature Geoscience, 1 in Nature Communications and 3 in Geophysical Research Letters. Two of my works in Geophysical Research Letters were selected for the journal's front cover, and several were highlighted in other journals: Editor's Choice of Science Magazine ("Why the 'Y' in the Venusian sky?", Science 20 February 2015: Vol. 347 no. 6224 p. 837), EOS (10.1029/2015EO037099) or Nature Astronomy (10.1038/s41550-017-0198). Among my most important contributions in the field, I would highlight the characterization of winds in unexplored regions of Venus (4 articles), a pioneering 3-dimensional portray of the instantaneous winds and temperatures of the Venus atmosphere (1 article), the discovery of new types of waves (2 articles), and the development of a novel theoretical framework to study atmospheric waves in planets with slow rotation (3 papers). With regards to my international collaborations, about 89% of my articles were co-authored with researchers in other countries. I also participated in 13 R&D projects funded through competitive calls, being the Principal Investigator in 3 projects: "PALETTE" (funded by the Spanish Government with €40.875 during 4 years), "DUVAC: Discovering the Unknown in Venus' Atmospheric Circulation" (funded by the EMERGIA program with €103.000 during 4 years) and "Characterizing the atmospheric dynamics of Venus with Akatsuki and Venus Express" (funded by JAXA’s ITYF with ¥12.500.000 during 5 years). I have also been Principal Investigator in two observing programs at NASA's infrared telescope IRTF in Mauna Kea (Hawaii, USA). Other evidences about my leadership are: (a) design and coordination of a campaign of ground-based observations that resulted in a set of uninterrupted observations of Venus during more than 100 days (see Peralta et al. 2022); (b) design, coordination and logistics of a regional campaign of observations of the stellar occultation of Eurybates during 23 of October 2022 in collaboration with NASA's LUCY mission; (c) planning and coordination of Venus observations NASA's PARKER flyby in 2020; (d) coordination and scientific exploitation of data from the second flyby of NASA's MESSENGER in 2007.
