João O. Malva is a neuroscientist with research experience in fundamental mechanisms of neuromodulation, neuroprotection, neuroinflammation and neural stem cell-based repair. In the last decade, he strongly invested in neuroscience aspects of ageing and its implications to societal impact. He is the founder of Ageing@Coimbra consortium, a Reference Site of the Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing. This strong network activity at regional and european level launched the basis for the negotiation of the admission of the University of Coimbra as a Core Partner of EIT Health. João Malva acted as President of the Portuguese Society for Neuroscience (2007-2011), has acted as a member of the University Senate, Assembly and Scientific Council of the Faculty of Medicine and Institute of Interdisciplinary Research of the University of Coimbra. He is currently elected member of the Parliament of the Municipality of Coimbra.
