Zlatan Zlatev Denchev, PhD, Dr. Habil., is Assistant Professor with Habilitation (Professor Auxiliar c/ Agregação) at the Department of Polymer Engineering (DEP), Institute for Polymers and Composites (IPC) of the University of Minho, Portugal. In 1983, he graduated as Chemical Engineer in “Technology of the Organic Synthesis and Fuels” with gold medal and excellence as the higher–ranking student of the University of Chemical Technologies “Assen Zlatarov”, Burgas, Bulgaria. Defended his PhD thesis in the field of Polymer Chemistry and Technology in 1990 at the University of Chemical Technologies in Sofia, Bulgaria. Since 2000 lives and works in Portugal. Dr.habil. Z. Denchev has more than 40 years of research experience in polymer science, including synthesis, advanced characterization and processing of polymer materials. His current scientific interests and expertise are related to: Micro-fibrillar composites; Polymer nano-composites by in-situ polymerization; Reactive micro-encapsulation; Electro-conductive composites via microencapsulation technology; Advanced composites with EMI shielding properties; Biocatalysts for green chemistry applications; Advanced synchrotron WAXS/SAXS analyses of polymers. Dr. Denchev is author of more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific articles, 11 book chapters, holds 9 patents, has made more than 80 communications at international conferences (among them 20 invited and 9 keynote lectures). He has supervised 6 post-doc investigators, 8 PhD students, more than 20 master students, 7 students with industrial grants and had 10 other supervisions.
