MJC completed the PhD in Fluvial Restoration and Management in 2019 at the University of Lisbon (Instituto Superior de Agronomia). Her scientific background is highly multidisciplinary combining Freshwater Biology and Ecohydraulics, especially focusing on the interactions between freshwater fish and the surrounding flow environment. Her research is both field and flume-based enabling the applicability of flume-based knowledge to river conditions. During her PhD MJC led all activities related to the rehabilitation and certification process of the flume facilities at the Laboratory of Hydraulics located at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), to conduct live-fish experiments. She integrates the Animal Welfare Body of IST. MJC continued her post-doctoral studies on the impacts of hydropower on freshwater fish, by integrating a competitive H2020 project (FIThydro - Fishfriendly Innovative Technologies for Hydropower), where her duties included the planning, execution, analysis, and dissemination of ecohydraulics research activities. Her expertise in this field resulted in her invitation as a consultant in the private sector, as project coordinator. MJC has published 14 articles in ISI Web of Science (h-index=7; 105 citations) on the topics of Ecohydraulics and Freshwater Biology (5 as first author, 11 published in the last 5 years). In parallel, MJC has published and presented more than 10 papers at internationally renowned conferences and has chaired sessions on the limnology topic. She participated in several competitive national and international projects, highlighting the FCT-EcoPeak4Fish project, aiming at developing solutions to ensure the sustainability of fish populations downstream of hydropower plants, where she coordinates two of the project's main tasks. MJC has mentored 1 PhD and 3 MSc students and is currently mentoring 2 PhD students. MJC has been active in co-organizing scientific meetings and conferences and in communicating science. MJC has a well-established scientific network with who she collaborates regularly publishing papers, mentoring students and submitting proposals to highly competitive calls. MJC was a member of the Organizing and Scientific Committees of the Fish Passage 2020 Conference and a member of the Organizing Committee of the CERIS Open Day 2019, which was awarded the Best Practices R&D Award.
