Diana Neves

Dr. Diana Neves received a PhD degree in Sustainable Energy Systems (MIT-Portugal Program) in 2016, a Master’s degree in Energy and Environmental Engineering in 2009, and a bachelor degree in Meteorology, Oceanography and Geophysics in 2007, from the Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon. In 2016, she integrated IN+ Centre for Innovation, Technology and Policy Research, LARSyS and Instituto Superior Técnico, developing research in modelling renewable technology integration and deployment, and sustainable development strategies in multiple R&D projects, such as, with utilities (EDP), industry (NOS) or municipalities (Lisbon, Odemira, Azores). In 2023 she was a visiting researcher at CMU, US. In 2017, she was awarded a FCT post-doctoral grant, and since then she focuses her research on energy systems planning and modelling, exploring the technical and economic impact of decentralized solar energy, demand response and energy storage. In 2021 she earned an assistant researcher contract on CEEC-IND 2021, at Instituto Superior Técnico. Lately, she has been applying a more holistic approach for carbon-neutral power systems, increasingly developing sustainable and equitable energy transition strategies. Namely, by focusing on the interaction of different energy trading paradigms, renewable energy communities and policy implications. She is part of the Global Observatory in P2P, an IEA project. In scientific terms, Diana co-authored 24 international peer-review papers in Q1/Q2 journals in the Energy field, being the first or corresponding author of 16 of them. She reports a h-index of 16/18, and more than 798/1151 citations, respectively in Scopus/Google Scholar databases. Regarding teaching, she co-supervised more than 20 MSc students and 2 PhD students and has given classes as an invited lecturer for both MSc and PhD courses. For knowledge transfer, she has developed international (CMU, MIT, US; KTH, Sweden; UV, Spain; UCL, UK; UEM, Mozambique) and national (FCUL; UC; INESC) collaborations around projects and student supervision. Further, in 2023 she was a visiting researcher at CMU, US, continuing to foster international collaborations. Regarding management activities, she coordinated the collaborative project MetaExplorer and is now managing BP16 of “New Generation Storage”, a 280k€ PRR project. She has participated in 29 MSc examination committees, and since 2016 she is responsible for the research lab meetings. Further, Diana has systematically searched to fund her research, having led 9 project funding applications as Principal Investigator for National (FCT, FLAD Science Award) and international funding (AXA Science Research Fund, La Caixa foundation), highlighting an ERC Starting Grant Proposal in 2023.
