I completed a bachelor’s degree in biology (specialization in molecular biology and genetics) in 2021/07/15 and a master's degree in human biology and environment in 2024/02/27 at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon. I did my master’s thesis in the Alisson Gontijo Lab (Integrative Biomedicine Lab) at the Nova Medical School under the supervision of Dr. Juliane Menezes. There, I studied the mechanisms of action of ARHGEF10, a conserved gene linked to neurodevelopmental disorders in the nervous system. I used Drosophila genetics and neurogenetics coupled with behavioral profiling of spontaneous and induced locomotor behaviors to demonstrate that the locomotor role of ARHGEF10 was, apart from conserved in Drosophila flies, attributable to a neuronal requirement of this gene and is age-dependent. Moreover, controlled genetic rescue experiments also allowed the definition of sex-specific requirements of ARHGEF10 isoforms in Drosophila. During my master's, I also developed skills in microscopy and immunohistochemistry techniques (confocal and fluorescence) and culture of human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and neuronal stem cells (2023, June-August). Since March 2024, I have been doing volunteer training at the Alisson Gontijo Lab, continuing my master’s project. Since May 2024, I have been working with iPSC culture and neuromuscular organoid generation.
