João Moura graduated in Biochemistry in the University of Porto in 2002 and completed a PhD degree in Biomedical Sciences in 2009, on the same University. He authored 24 publications in peer-review journals (14 as first author) and won 15 prizes/distinctions. During the third year of his bachelor¿s degree, João Moura started his scientific career as an undergraduate fellow in Pedro Moradas Ferreira¿s lab at the former IBMC (Porto, Portugal), studying the promoters of the three hydrogenases in Thiocapsa roseopersicina. He continued this study in the Biological Research Center (Szeged, Hungary), under the supervision of Kornel Kovacs, as part of his 6-month Erasmus scholarship. He later moved to Hematology, where he studied the migration patterns of neoplastic T-cells under the supervision of Margarida Lima in ICBAS (Porto, Portugal). During his PhD, he did extensive training in flow cytometry, cell sorting and cellular and molecular biology techniques. From the completion of his PhD in 2009 to the beginning of 2016, he moved away from science, embracing a part-time academic career in IPVC and a venture into the private sector. From 2014 to 2016, he laid ground for his return to science, collaborating in original work and reviewing important topics that led to 6 publications. In mid 2016 he resumed his full-time research activities in the CNC.IBILI (Coimbra, Portugal), under the supervision of Eugénia Carvalho and, as a result, in the last 5 years he authored 16 publications with an accumulated impact factor over 56 (Web of Science) and 266 citations with h=8 (Google scholar). In 2017, he earned a post-doc grant to continue this work. Simultaneously, he has sought independent financial support to continue his research, earning 10 scientific prizes and a total of 24.000¿ in small prizes and projects (as PI) that were used in the pursue of new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies in diabetic complications. He is a very skilled researcher with a broad and multidisciplinary background developed through his career, and with a strong experience in immunology and diabetic wound healing.
