SÓNIA CRISTINA DE JESUS CHELINHO

Sónia Chelinho is a member of the Community Interface Office of Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra (IPC) since 2022 and a collaborator researcher at Centre for Functional Ecology since 2015. She finished a PhD in Biology (specialization in Ecology) at the University of Coimbra in 2012, related with the improvement of pesticide risk assessment in tropical and warm temperate regions, using ecotoxicological tools. She has also been/is involved in a total of 12 projects related to the pesticide risk assessment and bioremediation, agricultural application of organic wastes, the development of bionematicides, or the effects of soil salinization on ecosystems. Since her MsC she published 25 papers in international peer review journals (9 as first and corresponding author) and communicated her findings in scientific meetings, as platform or poster presentations. She officially co-supervised/co-supervises a bachelor, two master's students and a PhD student and collaborated in the supervision of 4 undergraduate and MSc students from Brazil and Portugal. Since 2013 she lectures in Post-Graduation/Graduation courses and, in 2014, she was the lecturer of a one-week Post-Graduation intensive course in Brazil. Her career also included the organization of scientific events, either integrating the scientific or the organizing committee. She was also involved, as a technical team member, in services rendering to international companies such as Shell and UBA (Umweltbundesamt), as well as in several science exhibition events (ex. FAO - World Soil Day, UC Summer Schools and Open Science days). She was invited for the jury of 3 PhD thesis and 3 MsC thesis and was a reviewer of 33 scientific manuscripts. Since 2022 she joined the Community Interface Office (GIC - Gabinete de Interface com a Comunidade), at the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra (IPC). She is a team member of the project @GIR - Gabinetes de Inovação Regional (Regional Innovation Offices), that intends to connect academia with the low density territories of Coimbra region, trought the transfer of knowledge, the development of innovation projects, the integration of IPC students, and the qualification of regional companies and institutions.
