Miguel M. Lima is PhD student at Instituto Dom Luiz, Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon (IDL-FCUL), and part of the PhD Program MIT-Portugal. He completed his licentiate degree in Meteorology, Oceanography, and Geophysics at the Faculty of Sciences in the University of Lisbon in 2020, and in 2023 completed the master course in Geophysical Sciences, specializing in Meteorology and Oceanography, at the same institution. He has since 2019 been working at the Associated Laboratory Instituto Dom Luiz (IDL) in a rich multidisciplinary environment, being part of three international projects (STorM, DISCOVERAzores, and AIClimate@EU) and participating in five others (ROADMAP, WEx-Atlantic, FireCast, MEDCYCLONES, and Dhefeus). His first focus was on the relation of oceanic waves and microseismicity, which then moved to the in-depth study of the evolution and impacts caused by Tropical Cyclones in the Northeastern sector of the Atlantic basin. Currently, he is focused on large- and synoptic-scale patterns affecting extreme events in the northern hemisphere, and has since the beginning of his career been using advanced computational methods with a heavy focus on data science. He has authored 2 published papers and co-authored several others (4 published, 2 under review), further fostering relations which will lead to more publications in the near future (2 work in progress), additionally he has worked on several technical documents. He has given several talks at an international level and participated in the production of others. He has successfully supervised 2 undergraduate students in their final projects.

2023/07/02 - 2023/07/08 The summer school included lectures, hands-on sessions and field trips on various topics of Earth Systems. The focus was on the dynamics of and interactions between the different spheres of the Earth: solid Earth, ocean, atmosphere and biosphere. Lectures will focus on state-of-the art research and recent advances. Hands-on sessions will include both observation, including field work, and data analysis. The topics of hands-on sessions will cover atmospheric processes, coastal environments, oceanic dynamics, environmental seismology and geophysics.

2023/06/28 - 2023/06/30 The general objectives of the workshop were to present and discuss recent scientific progress in understanding and modelling dynamical processes and socio-economic impacts of cyclones from weather to climate time scales, in the mid latitudes in general and the Mediterranean in particular.
Workshop
2nd MedCyclones Workshop & 9th European Storm Workshop
Météo France Toulouse, France
2023/06/26 - 2023/06/30 The Training School was adressed to early career scientists from regional and national meteorological agencies and institutes. It covered several aspects of Mediterranean cyclones: dynamics, processes, forecasting, predictability and impacts. The activities developed through lectures and practical activities where the students performed specific analysis in small groups. Final results were presented in the form of short talks on the last day of the Training School to trigger discussion and provide the opportunity to enhance the collaborative spirit.
