Curriculum Vitae
Joana Manarte
Joana Manarte is a research fellow at the Centre for Research and Intervention in Education of the University of Porto (CIIE/
UP). She has been involved in European and Lusophone research projects that focus on diversity, intercultural dialogue, peacebuilding,
cooperation for development, aligned with the decolonial perspective, and seeking a sensitive and contextual problematization
of educational phenomena. She has experience as a university teacher and trainer, lecturing in the fields of communication
and human relationships, and on intercultural education, mobilising concepts from social psychology and critical education.
She is currently developing a research project on educational issues of migrant and refugee people in the Portuguese school
context, with a focus on teachers' perceptions on the welcoming of diverse cultures in the educational system, and on their
preparation to deal with diversity. Joana's research interests relate to education and peacebuilding, interculturality and
decolonization, education and human development, school, and teacher education. Besides academic activity, Joana works as
a singer in several artistic projects. At present, Disco Voador stands out due to its pedagogical dimension related to human
rights, presenting repertoire from the most diverse geographies, in shows performed in auditoriums nationwide, as well as
concerts in schools for the school community.
