I obtained a BSc in Biochemistry at the University of Coimbra and completed the BSc research project in a sheep model of maternal obesity, at the MitoXT research group at the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (CNC) in 2018, under the supervision of Susana P. Pereira, Ph.D. and João D. Martins, MSc. Before enrolling in an MSc program, I completed an internship in the Erasmus+ program at the Institute of Microbiology of Bundeswehr in Munich from February to June 2019, under the supervision of Gregor Grass, PhD and Peter Braun, MSc. The seminal work developed was published in 2020 in Microorganisms. From August to October 2020, I enrolled in the summer course Scientific Research Methodologies in which I was granted a scholarship from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) to study the in utero modulation by diet of the maternal and fetal mitochondrial capacity in a sheep model. During my master¿s dissertation, under the MSc in Cellular and Molecular Biology program at the University of Coimbra, I studied the cardiac postpartum effects of pregnancies complicated by gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and the implications of exercise practice exclusively during gestation on maternal cardiac mitochondria metabolism. Extending my international experience, from January to March 2022, I embarked on an Erasmus+ internship at the Medical University of Graz, Perinatal Research Lab, Austria, under Ursula Hiden, PhD and Elisa Weiß, MSc supervision, working with fetal endothelial colony-forming cells (ECFCs) isolated from human umbilical cord blood after overweight and GDM pregnancies. In July 2022, I was awarded the Professor Dr. Lima-de-Faria Scientific Innovation Scholarship by the City Council of Cantanhede, Portugal, to study the metabolic (in)flexibility of the maternal cardiac tissue in the postpartum period of a GDM pregnancy, at CNC. Later, I was granted the FCT 2022 Ph.D. Studentship with the project: ¿Assessing Cardiovascular Disease Risk in gestational diabetes mellitus offspring at Birth¿ and enrolled in the Doctoral program of Experimental Biology and Biomedicine at the University of Coimbra, in which I completed a series of advanced courses. Since February 2022, I am also enrolled in the EIT Health Ageing PhD School, a pan-European collaboration of academic and non-academic partners. Recently, I initiated my year abroad at the Medical University of Graz, Austria to begin my experiments in umbilical cords of GDM pregnancies. So far, my productivity is reflected in the publication of 9 peer-reviewed manuscripts and 26 abstracts in conference communications, with 6 awards, the participation in 19 scientific meetings and the co-supervision of one BSc student and one undergraduate student.
