Carla Joana Santos Marinho Silva concluiu o Doutoramento em Química Têxtil (PhD in Textile Chemistry) em 2005 pela Universidade do Minho-Escola de Engenharia, o Mestrado em Biotecnologia Industrial (MSc in Industrial Biotechnology) em 1999 pela FEL-USP e a Licenciatura em Engenharia Biológica (Degree in Biological Engineering-Pollution Control) em 1997 pela Universidade do Minho-Escola de Engenharia. É Diretor do Departamento de Química e Biotecnologia no CITEVE (Director Chemical and Biotecnology Department). Orientou 2 teses de doutoramento, mais de 20 dissertações de mestrado e 6 dissertações de licenciatura. Participa e/ou participou como investigador em diversos projetos e como Coordenador responsável em 2 projetos Europeus (H2020 e HE). Com mais de 20 anos de experiência em investigação aplicada à indústria, 11 patentes e mais de 50 artigos publicados em revistas com arbitragem internacional, tem sido responsável pela gestão e coordenação de vários projetos nacionais e internacionais em várias áreas de investigação: engenharia de superfícies, nanomateriais, fibras e polímeros avançados, biotecnologia, (nano)revestimentos funcionais, otimização de processos, sustentabilidade e economia circular.
