Ana Tavares is postdoctoral researcher at Qatar University, where her research focuses on how man-made structures function as artificial habitats and influence marine species connectivity and genetic diversity. She concluded her PhD In 2024 in Biological Sciences by the University of Algarve during which her thesis significantly improved our understanding of marine connectivity and genetic differentiation in tropical and temperate seagrass species. As a marine molecular ecologist, she investigates marine ecosystem responses and adaptations to environmental changes by combining population genetics, species distribution, and biophysical modelling to understand connectivity and adaptive responses to anthropogenic climate change. Her research has been focused on marine habitat-forming species, particularly macroalgae and seagrasses, using integrative approaches across temporal and spatial scales to reconstruct demographic histories, assess gene flow, and predict future distribution shifts. The outcomes of her research are aligned with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
