I graduated in Biomedical Engineering (Integrated Master Degree) from the University of Minho in October 2022. During my 5-years course I did three summer internships, in different research fields. The first internship was at BH4U, in 2019, where I developed a bioproduct for diapers to avoid babies skin from burning. The followed internships were granted by FCT and developed at University of Minho departments of DEM, in 2020, with the aim to develop transparent masks for COVID-19, and ALGORITMI, in 2022, where I developed numeric models of organs-on-chip to study the flow behaviour trough ANSYS computational fluid dynamics simulation. During my masters I also atended aditional courses namely: In 2020, the non-accredited course i9MASKS, at University of Minho, which focused on the development of innovative PDMS masks to protect COVID-19, with 5 ECTS of lectures and 280 hours of traineeship; In 2021, Clinical Research for Researchers: from regulation to practice, by the Clinical Academic Center of Braga; and in 2022, the Online Advanced Course in Biomedical Imaging from the UT Austin Portugal Program, in parternship with University of Coimbra and the University of TEXAS. I have developed my master thesis research work at the 3B's Research Group - I3Bs Institute, under the supervision of Prof. Manuela Gomes and Dr. Rui Domingues. My MSc thesis focused on the development of 3D in vitro models of human tendon by combining bioprinting technology with tendon decellularized extracellular matrix and a fibrillar support matrix platform based on Cellulose Nanocrystals. This work resulted in one publication as first author at ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces (IF=10.383), and I also contributed to another work that resulted in a publication as co-author at Advanced Functional Materials (IF=19.924). During the development of my thesis, I attended to several international conferences and advanced schools organized under the scope of the EC Twinning Project Achilles "Overcoming specific weaknesses in tendon biology to design advanced regenerative therapies", namely the Achilles Educational School & Retreat, held at Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg, Germany (March 2022), the 3rd Achilles Workshop held in Porto (October 2021), the Final Achilles Conference held at Guimaraes (May 2022), which have significantly contributed to improve my knowledge in the tendon research field. I was part of the organizing committee of these last two events and I am also part of the organizing Comitte for the European Orthopaedic Research Society Meeting (EORS2023), that will be held in Porto (September 2023). I have presented a poster at 3rd Achilles Workshop held in Porto (October 2021), and in the Final Achilles Conference held at Guimarães (May 2022), I had an oral presentation that was awarded as the Best Short Oral Presentation by the panel of International Keynote Speakers. In December 2022 I was accepted/enrolled in the PhD Program in Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine & Stem Cells of the I3Bs Research Institute at the University of Minho. As so, I have the possibility to continue further developing the work done under my master thesis project also holding a Researcher fellowship under the scope of the ERC consolidator Grant MagTendon (ERC-2017-CoG-772817) project led by Prof. Manuela Gomes. My current research focuses on the development and optimization of a coaxial 3D Bioprinting system for tendon regeneration. At the beginning of 2023 I became a student member of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society - European chapter (TERMIS-EU) and student Member of the European Orthopaedic Research Society (EORS). My knowledge is focused in the areas of Engineering and Technology, with emphasis on Medical Engineering, Biomaterials, Nanomaterials and Biofabrication technologies, with a special interest for the development of novel organs-on-chip platforms, especially on the field of tendon (patho)physiology.
