Gustavo Lopes dos Santos is a Territorial Engineering PhD student at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon since 2019. He holds a MSc in Civil Engineering, in the field of Urbanism, Transport and Systems, by the same institution (in 2015). His scientific interest is in the study of the dynamic interrelationship between the city and (mega-)events, regarding the planning, delivery, and permanent and temporary effects in territories and communities. At the PhD he is studying the Olympic Games, with the project entitled "Sustainable Urban Development and Mega-Events: The impacts of the Olympic Agenda 2020 in future Olympic Legacies" (in CiTUA). In 2022 he was awarded with the Olympic Studies Centre PhD Students and Early Career Academics Research Grant Programme, of the International Olympic Committee. He has also studied mega-event planning during his master dissertation. His passion for mega-event led him to create his own tourism business, which operated for two years in Parque das Nações, the former site of Expo'98, in Lisbon, with the objective of enhancing and showcasing the urban, architectural, artistic, and historical legacies of the event for the newest centrality of the city. Between his MSc graduation and PhD enrolment, he has also worked in other research projects in the field of transport and urban planning.
