Carlos Augusto Xavier Ramos. He completed his PhD in Engineering Sciences in 2007 at the University of Porto's Faculty of Engineering, has a Master's degree in Applied Physics from the University of Aveiro in 1998 and a degree in Physics - branch of materials from the University of Aveiro in 1994. He is an Adjunct Professor at the Polytechnic of Porto in the Porto School of Engineering, where he has taught and coordinated various curricular units in the area of Physics in the degrees of Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering and Medical Instrumentation, Biomedical Engineering, as well as in the Masters in Computer Engineering and Medical Instrumentation, in which he was Coordinator for more than eight years and in the Masters in Biomedical Engineering, in which he was the initial Coordinator for two years, having also been its promoter with the Portuguese Course Evaluation and Accreditation Agency. He has mainly carried out his research in the research group Núcleo de Biomateriais e Nanotecnologia (NBIN), a sub-group of the research group Centro de Inovação em Engenharia e Tecnologia Industrial (CIETI), based at the Porto School of Engineering. His research has focused on composite materials with the incorporation of fibre optic sensors for medical equipment and systems, web applications to support medical activity, and is currently focused on the application of nanomaterials, mainly in physical properties for potential application in the medical field. He has supervised master's theses and end-of-course undergraduate work/projects, as well as arguing master's theses and papers. He has participated in R&D projects and published in conferences and journals. In recent years he has been a member of the Pedagogical Council of the Porto School of Engineering.
