Joana de Carvalho Folgado Lessa

Joana Lessa holds the position of Professora Coordenadora / Associate Professor in Design at the University of Algarve and is a researcher affiliated with <DIV>: Design, Interaction, and Visualisation research group within the CIAUD - Research Centre for Architecture, Urbanism, and Design at Faculty of Architecture in the University of Lisbon. Her research focuses on Speculative and Critical Design, Design Culture, Experience Design, Interaction Design, Emotional Design, Post-digital museum, Digital and Interactive Media. Additionally, she actively participates in The Global Network of Water Museums UNESCO-IHP initiative as a member of the advisory committee and is a member of the UNESCO chair in Ecohydrology at the University of Algarve. In the University of Algarve, her current role include being responsible for and lecturer of several subjects in the Communication Design graduation and post-graduation degrees, namely: Digital Design Project; Interaction and Multimedia Design; History and Theories of Design; and Typography, among others, and a facilitator / tutor in final design projects. She is also an elected member of the Academic Senate. Prior roles include: Director of the BA Communication Design Course; Sub-Director of the BA Communication Design Course; Coordinator of Design Internships; Member of the Pedagogical Council; Member of the Scientific Council; Member of the BA Communication Design Course Self-Evaluation Committee; and Member of the Committee for the Revision of the Lic. Design Course to the Bologna Process. Regarding her educational trajectory, she obtained a doctoral degree in Design by the Faculty of Architecture of University of Lisbon, funded by the Portuguese foundation for science and technology, a master degree in Multimedia Technology by the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto and a Licentiate degree in Communication Design by the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto for which she was honored with the Engenheiro António de Almeida Foundation's award for highest academic achievement.
