Gustavo Fernandes Pedroso is a DPhil student in Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Oxford. He has an MPhil in Cuneiform Studies from the University of Oxford and a BA in History from NOVA University Lisbon. His DPhil thesis is entitled "Poetics in Context: Mesopotamian Pious Sufferer Poetry, Penitential Prayers, and their Hebrew Comparators". His research focuses on the use of poetic form in Akkadian and Biblical Hebrew pious sufferer poetry and penitential prayers, and the relation between form and the contexts of use and performance of these compositions. His DPhil is funded by an Open-Oxford-Cambridge Arts and Humanities Research Council Doctoral Training Partnership & St John's College Scholarship and his supervisors are Professor Frances Reynolds and Professor Laura Quick.
