Ana Maria Carreira Lopes (A. Lopes) graduated in Chemical Engineering (5 years) at the University of Lisbon (IST), in 1986, and obtained the PhD degree at UBI, in physical chemistry of electrolytes, involving crystallization studies. In 2011, she became Associate Professor. She is integrated member of the FibEnTech-UBI research unit, responsible for the Environmental Technologies Group, where she started the area of environmental electrochemistry. Her main areas of interest have been the application of electrochemical techniques, utilizing commercial and new electrode materials, prepared in situ, to solve environmental problems. Under this subject, she developed/supervised studies on the electrodegradation (anodic oxidation, electrocoagulation, electro-Fenton, and electropersulfate) of persistent organic pollutants (dyes, pharmaceuticals, aromatic amines, phenolic compounds, etc.) and effluents from different industries: textile, sanitary landfills, cork, tannery, olive oil, cheese whey, winery, etc. Several materials were used as anodes in the oxidation studies, namely, boron-doped diamond, doped conducting polymer (polypyrrole), some perovskites, lead oxide, tin oxide, and stannous/antimony oxides. She published 95 articles in journals and 7 book chapters. Has 1 patent(s) registered. Organized 14 event(s). Supervised/supervises 19 PhD theses and 25 MSc dissertations. Has received 5 awards and/or honors. Participates and/or participated as Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI) in 1 international project, Principal investigator in 3 projects and Researcher in 9 projects. Currently, participates in 3 PRR, involving textile and livestock effluents, and in a FCT exploratory project. In her professional activity interacted with 220 collaborators co-authorship of scientific papers. Her teaching activities are mainly related to Physical Chemistry and Unit Operations in Chemical Engineering (1st cycle), Electrochemistry and Corrosion, Project, and Introduction to Research (2nd cycle), and Research Seminar (3rd cycle). Between 2009 and 2013 she was President of the Faculty of Sciences. She was President of the Portuguese Electrochemical Society, and she represented the Portuguese Chemical Society in the Division of Chemistry and the Environment of the EUCHEMS. She is Member of the Conselho Científico da Faculdade de Ciências in Universidade da Beira Interior and Member of the PhD Course Committee in Chemistry in Universidade da Beira Interior.
