Marina Isabel Felizardo Correia Duarte is an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the School of Engineering of Polytechnic of Porto (ISEP-P.Porto), an integrated member of the Center for Educational Research and Intervention of the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Porto and a collaborating member at the Center for Research and Development in Mechanical Engineering of the School of Engineering of Polytechnic of Porto. She has a five-year degree in Mechanical Engineering, with a major in fluids and heat, obtained in 1992 at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto. From 1992 to 1993, she worked at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), as a research collaborator in wind energy projects, with funding from the Foundation Gomes Teixeira. In 1993, she started working at Ventarco as a mechanical engineer, where she stayed only for a brief period of time, because she was admitted for a teaching position at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the School of Engineering of Polytechnic of Porto. In 1996, she obtained a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, with a major in Thermal Engineering, at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, which allowed her to apply and acquire a tenure position at ISEP in 1997. At that time, she was a member of the Direction of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and a member of the Assembly of Representatives of ISEP, while teaching Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics. From 2001 to 2007, she was a member of the Pedagogical Council of ISEP, and from 2005 to 2007 she was the Vice-President of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. As for teaching, she continued with Thermodynamics, but also Energy Laboratories, Industrial Refrigeration, Experimental Methods and Instrumentation and Industrial Fluid Mechanics, because from 2005 to 2016 she was the Director of the Fluids and Heat Laboratory of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. From 2008 to 2011, she was an Assessor of the President of ISEP, for matters regarding non-graduate training offer for students and pedagogical training of teachers. In 2010, she obtained a Master's degree in Educational Sciences, with a major in University Pedagogy from the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Coimbra. From 2012 to 2016 she was one of the Sub-Directors of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Since 2018 she is an Assessor of the President of ISEP, for matters regarding non-graduate training. In 2019 she obtained a PhD in Educational Sciences from the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Porto and became an integrated member of Centre for Research and Intervention in Education of the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences of the University of Porto. In the last decade, she has been doing research in the topics of Engineering Education, Learner Autonomy and Educational Technology. She is the co-author of six book chapters, four journal articles, twenty conference papers. She has presented more than 30 communications at international conferences and has been a member of the Scientific Committee at some of the major conferences in Engineering Education and Higher education, such as EDUCON, SEFI, REES, TEEM, WEEF and CISPEE. She is also a reviewer for several international journals, such as Studies in Educational Evaluation, Journal of Language and Education, European Journal of Education and European Journal of Engineering Education. She is a member of the Portuguese Order of Engineers, of the Portuguese Society for Engineering Education and of the Sustainable Campus Network. She continues teaching Thermodynamics to Mechanical Engineering students but also Initiation to Research Project to students of the Master of Engineering and Industrial Management of ISEP.
