My research interests were kindled early in my academic journey during my Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry at the School of Sciences, University of Minho. It was during this time that I began to explore the intricate role of the Tau protein in neuroplasticity, neuropathology, and potential therapeutic avenues for various brain disorders. Subsequently, during my Master's studies in Health Sciences at the School of Medicine, University of Minho, which I wrapped up in 2021, I continued to explore this +field. Under the mentorship of Dr. Ioannis Sotiropoulos and Dr. Joana Silva, my research endeavors expanded, and I developed a particular interest in the innovative therapeutic platform of Antisense Oligonucleotides (ASOs) for addressing brain conditions associated with Tau pathology, such as Alzheimer's disease (AD), collaborating with RNA Therapeutics Institute in Mass, Boston. In parallel I have also participated in different project from the role of Tau protein in chronic pain, study of Tau's involvement in mitochondrial dynamics, particularly its response to stress conditions, and the physiological role of Tau protein. In my research, I employ a wide range of methodologies, conducting both in vitro studies involving cell lines and primary neuronal cultures, as well as in vivo investigations using mouse models. My toolkit includes various techniques for neuronal and brain analysis, ranging from molecular approaches like qPCR and Western blotting to cellular techniques such as immunofluorescence staining. I also engage in neurostructural analyses, including Golgi-based neuronal reconstruction, and delve into ultrastructural investigations like electron microscopy. Behavioral analyses are an integral part of my research methodology, allowing me to gain a comprehensive understanding of the phenomena under study. At present, I am actively contributing to the field of brain pathology and therapy as a Researcher fellow in Dr. Joana Silva's laboratory at ICVS, University of Minho. I have had the privilege of presenting my research findings at several national and international conferences, including the European Behavioral Pharmacology Society (EBPS) meeting in 2019, the Portuguese Society for Neuroscience (SPN) meeting in 2021, the 1st Symposium on Oligonucleotide technology and Therapeutics in 2021, the ECNP Workshop for Early Career Scientists in Europe in 2023, and the ISN-ESN Meeting in 2023.
