Joana has a degree in Marine Biology and a PhD in Biomedical Sciences. She has more than 17 years working with Zebrafish as a Technician, Researcher and, since 2019, as Manager of the Champalimaud Fish Platform. This includes the aquaculture activities for 3 fish species and scientific services such as colony management, establishment of new transgenic and mutant fishlines, assisted reproduction techniques, optimization of husbandry protocols. Joana is also a member of the Animal Welfare Body (ORBEA) at Champalimaud Foundation and teaches at Laboratory Animal Science courses and Masters courses. In 2021-2022, she was on the Executive Board of the Zebrafish Husbandry Association. She continues to engage with the national and international zebrafish communities and actively contributes for the development of the field by taking part in meetings’ organisation and participation, outreach events, revision of manuscripts for publication in peer reviewed journals and scientific project collaborations. She is co-author in several peer-reviewed publications in the field of zebrafish husbandry.
