Joana Freire de Castiço Monteiro. Completed the Doutoramento in Ciências Biomédicas in 2014 by Universidade de Lisboa Faculdade de Medicina and Licenciatura in Biologia Marinha e Pescas in 2005 by Universidade do Algarve. After 7 years working as a researcher using zebrafish as a regeneration model, she joined the Fish Platform at Champalimaud Foundation, in 2015, as Senior Research Technician. Since 2019, she is the Manager of the Fish Platform at Champalimaud Foundation. She coordinates the aquaculture activities for 3 fish species and manages and supervises scientific services including colony management, generation of transgenic and mutant lines, assisted reproduction techniques, optimization of husbandry protocols. Joana teaches at courses on Laboratory Animal Science since 2009, at Masters courses since 2016, and supervise Master's thesis since 2020. In 2021, she has joined the Executive Board of the Zebrafish Husbandry Association. In parallel, she has been an active scientist, with published work on several research fields. Currently her main research interests include fish husbandry, welfare and 3Rs, transgenics and gene editing.
