Marisa C. Gaspar graduated in Anthropology from the Lisbon University Institute (ISCTE-IUL). In 2009 she completed an MSc in Social Anthropology at the London School of Economics, UK. In the same year she has enrolled on ISCTE-IUL/CRIA Doctoral Programme in Anthropology, concluded in 2013 with the thesis: 'Macau Sá Filo: Memória, Identidade e Ambivalência na Comunidade Euroasiática Macaense' [Children of Macao: memory, identity and ambivalence in the Macanese Eurasian community]. In 2017 she joined SOCIUS/CSG-Research in Social Sciences and Management, Universidade de Lisboa (ISEG-Universidade de Lisboa), where is working as a postdoctoral fellow in her newest research project: ¿Comer e Poder: A Economia da Cultura em Macau¿ [Feasting and power: the economy of culture in Macao], funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (2017-2023). She is an experienced fieldworker in Macao (China) and in Portugal and has developed extensive scientific research on the Eurasian Macanese community . Her current research interests are on tourism public policies, culture and intangible heritage, social change, institutional ethnography, ethnography of power, identity, ambivalence, heritage food and food practices, consumption, globalization, anthropology of economy and politics. She is the author of several academic articles and books. The year of 2019 marked the 20th anniversary of Macao’s handover and the establishment of the Macao SAR (Macao Special Administrative Region of People’s Republic of China). The round table proposal, hosted by the Orient Museum in Lisbon, was to debate the Macanese identity as a unique feature of the current society of the Macao SAR, as well as, one of its history singularities marks. The panel was invited to reflect and give contribution on how they envision the future of the Eurasian Macanese.

2013/12/16 - 2013/12/20 Winter School on Urban Hybridity in the Post-Colonial Age, Macao, P.R.C.Over the course of the week, I could present and discuss with the group my research project proposal, attend lectures from the programme’s convenors and local guests, and finally, conduct a mini ethnographic fieldwork in-group around Macao. The result of these explorations into the tangible and social dynamics of Macao was a series of short presentations on the final day of the programme, which helped me to get engaged with new theoretical paradigms regarding Asian contexts.
