Marta Raquel Cardoso Lopes Correia

My main research interest is studying biotic interactions above and below ground (seed dispersal, pollination, mycorrhizae, etc.), and more recently, the impact of climate change on these interactions, as well as the structure and dynamics of plant communities. I have been conducting research in plant ecology in different ecosystems since my Biology degree (completed in 2010). I obtained my PhD in Biociências (Ecology) in 2019 at the University of Coimbra. As a postdoctoral researcher, I joined a research project that aims to understand the effects of climate change on the ecosystems of Serra da Estrela, Portugal. Currently, I am working on the IslandLife-ERC project, which studies the determinants of island ecological complexity in the context of global change. In addition to my research, I am committed to science outreach, environmental activism, and interdisciplinary projects. I have published 16 articles in scientific journals and collaborated with approximately 50 co-authors on scientific papers. Since 2020, I have been supervising several biology students in the Project in Applied Biology 1 and 2 (Biology degree) and co-supervised 1 Master's dissertation in Ecology. I have also participated in 4 projects focused on Biological Sciences, with an emphasis on Ecology and Biodiversity. My most frequent research topics include dispersal, ecological interactions, ecological networks, mycorrhizal fungi, diversity, refaunation, nutrient cycling, and montane forests.
