I obtained a BSc in Biology (2011) and a MSc in Biomedical Engineering (2013) from the University of Porto, and a PhD in Bioengineering (2017, MIT Portugal Program) from the University of Minho, in collaboration with Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology (HST, USA). Additional training includes a post-graduate course on skills for Higher Education teaching, a course on IP Management and Innovation and FELASA B certification to perform animal experiments. I am currently a junior researcher at i3S working under the scope of an FCT funded project in collaboration with LEPABE/FEUP. My research activity is focused on the production and characterization of graphene-based materials for drug delivery and phototherapy applications in skin diseases. Regarding outreach and dissemination activities, I participate regularly in several public exhibitions, school visits and open days. I actively contribute to the organization of TERMIS-EU (European chapter of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine Society) meetings since 2017, when I was elected as member of Communications & Outreach Committee. I am involved in the Materials Today Contributor Project (www.materialstoday.com/materials-today-contributors/) since 2018. At the post-graduate level, from 2015 to 2016, I was instructor on practical sessions of the Biomaterials course of the MIT-Portugal PhD program at 3Bs Research Group. I have mentored 2 international visiting students, 16 graduate trainees, 4 MSc and 1 PhD students; co-supervised 1 international MSc student in collaboration with Univ. of Bologna (Italy); and participated as member of 1 MSc thesis and 1 international PhD thesis examination boards (Univ. of Tampere, Finland). I am currently co-supervising 1 MSc fellow and 2 MSc students. My participation in 9 national and 5 international research projects financially supported by a diversity of sources (e.g., FCT, European Commission) has fostered collaborations with Ireland, Germany, USA, Netherlands and Italy. Among several awards is the Spin Your Thesis (SYT) program from the European Space Agency. I won the SYT in 2014 and 2016 for performing experiments under hypergravity. These projects resulted in numerous highlights in national/international news and 3 prizes. I published 30 (20 as first author) full papers in refereed journals, with a h-index of 10, average IF of 5.03 and over 360 citations. I also published 5 book chapters and presented 77 communications in international conferences, including 7 invited oral presentations. I actively contribute as reviewer for 12 international journals and I am currently guest editing a Special Issue in "Metabesity and Tissue Regeneration: New Therapies for Emerging Challenges" to be published on the International Journal of Molecular Sciences (IF 4.183, www.mdpi.com/journal/ijms/special_issues/Metabesity).
