Javier Jiménez Herrero holds a bachelor's degree in Marine Sciences from the University of Vigo (Spain). He collaborated on the SUSHIFISH project, contributing to various publications on fish histology and molecular biology. His MSc thesis in Marine Biology at the University of Algarve (Portugal) focused on the biogeography of intertidal seaweeds in the NE Atlantic. He gained research experience working on various projects at the University of New South Wales (Australia), investigating the ecological effects of oyster culture on fish communities and seagrass meadows. As a research intern at the Azorean Biodiversity Group (CE3C), he explored the ecological impact of invasive species under the MIMAR+ project. JJ worked at the Canarian Harmful Algae Observatory in Spain, specializing in phytoplankton sampling techniques, cultivation, and microscopic identification. He also contributed to the Nutrisafe project, utilizing citizen science to monitor macroalgal blooms. Alongside his academic and research roles, he served as the Scientific Chief Officer at Easy Harvest, collaborating with the private sector to the development of mitigation strategies for macroalgae blooms. He actively participated in seven international and national projects, co-authoring one paper presented at a conference, one paper in a journal, and a poster presented at an international conference. Additionally, he authored a paper in a journal and presented it at two national conferences. Currently, JJ works as a research assistant on the PRR Vertical Algas Bioeconomia Azul project, studying the ecophysiological responses of different macroalgae species
