Fernanda Gomes completed her PhD in Biomedical Engineering by the University of Minho, in 2010. Currently, she is a junior researcher of the Center of Biological Engineering, University of Minho and she is part of the Biofilm group, which has internationally recognized research regarding biofilms and their infections. She published 29 papers in international peer-reviewed journals, 3 book chapters, 1 book and 1 conference paper and participated in several scientific events (24 poster presentations and 9 oral presentations) and supervised 8 master students, 3 researchers and co-supervised 3 LSc/BSc students. Her h-index is 17 with 1326 citations. Moreover, she participated in three research projects: as team member of the project 4NoPressure and as a collaborator of the project PluriProtech and Protechmask, all aiming the development of smart materials with antimicrobial properties with different applications. She is a multidisciplinary scientist with over 18 years of research experience and her main areas of interest and work are biofilms, polymicrobial infections, bacteria and Candida spp, the search of new therapeutic alternatives to traditional therapies, the study of virulence factors and microbial resistance and antimicrobial/functionlaized materials. She works in the area of Microbiology and Medical and Health Sciences with emphasis on Infectious Diseases.
