Adélia Sequeira is Full Professor of Mathematics at the Department of Mathematics at the IST (Instituto Superior Técnico), University of Lisbon in Portugal. She retired in March 2021. From 2017-2021 she served as Director of the Research Center for Computational and Stochastic Mathematics - CEMAT/IST-ULisboa. She is the Scientific Coordinator of the CEMAT's Research Group: Mathematical Modeling in Biomedicine since 2010. She received a Doctoral Degree in Numerical Analysis in 1981, at École Polytechnique in Paris, France, and a Doctoral degree in Mathematics in 1985, at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, Portugal. In January 2001, she obtained from IST the Habilitation Degree in Mathematics. From 2001-2007, she served as Director of the Research Center on Mathematics and its Applications (CEMAT/IST). In November 2018 she was elected corresponding member of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences, Class of Sciences. In 2019 she was selected as a "Women in Science" by the Portuguese Agency of Science and Technology "Ciência Viva". She supervised 17 Postdoctoral researchers (since 2001), 17 PhD students, 15 Master students and a large number of diploma thesis. She was Principal Investigator of several national research projects sponsored by FCT, POCTI-FCT, JNICT, INIC, international bilateral research projects co-sponsored by CRUP-DAAD and GRICES (with France, Italy, Tunisia, Morocco). Principal Investigator of the Portuguese groups in 3 European Research Networks and in 2 Projects UT Austin|Portugal. She is co-author of more than 100 papers in international peer-reviewed journals, 21 chapters in books, co-editor of 22 books and journal special Issues and co-author of 1 book (Hemomath. The Mathematics of Blood, Springer, 2017) and also co-author of more than 150 papers and extended abstracts published in peer-reviewed Conference Proceedings. Other Scientific Activities include: Member of the Organizing and Scientific Committees of more than 60 International Conferences, Workshops, Symposia and Schools, mostly in the areas of Applied Mathematics and Applications in Life Sciences. Chairman of the European Conference on Numerical Mathematics and Advanced Applications - ENUMATH 2023, held in Lisbon at the IST, on September 4-8, 2023 (more than 400 participants from 31 different countries) https://enumath2023.com/. She was Invited speaker (including Keynote and Plenary Lectures) in more than 250 International Conferences and Workshops, as well as in Short Courses and Seminars in Academic Departments, visiting Professor in several universities in Europe, in the US and Japan for research collaboration. Member of the Editorial Boards: ADUF - Annali dell' Università di Ferrara (since 2022); MBE Mathematical Biosciences and Engineering (since 2020); PLOS ONE (since 2019); ISRN Mathematical Physics (since 2011); Archive of Mechanical Engineering (since 2011); Recent Patents on Computer Science (CSENG) (2008 - 2017). Her experience as Peer-Reviewer of International Projects includes several EU Projects and Networks, Czech Science Foundation, Cyprus IRIS-RPF, Georgia National Science Foundation (GNSF), CSCS Swiss National Supercomputing Centre, among others. She was also Peer-Reviewer of Research Projects and of applications for PhD grants from FCT.
