Anuj Chauhan is a Professor and Dinesh O. Shah Fellow in Chemical Engineering at the University of Florida. He received a B.Tech. degree in Chemical Engineering in 1993 from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, India, and a Ph.D in Chemical Engineering from the City University of New York in 1998. Prior to joining the University of Florida in 2001, he worked as a Post-Doctoral Researcher at the University of California at Berkeley jointly in the Departments of Chemical Engineering and Optometry. His research focuses on transport in biomedical systems with a focus on Ophthalmology. He has done significant research in devices for ophthalmic drug delivery particularly focusing on contact lenses. His work in this area was cited to be amongst the Medical Breakthroughs of the Year in 2004 by Readers Digest. The Food and Drug Administration has approved the Investigational New Drug (IND) application for first-ever human studies to test the efficacy of drug eluding contact lenses for glaucoma therapy, and Phase 1 studies are expected to begin early next year. Dr. Chauhan has published more than hundred papers and given several invited and key note talks at national and international venues. Dr. Chauhan’s research is funded by federal agencies, industry and foundations, both within and outside United States. His current research is geared towards translating discoveries made in his lab to bedside. Research conducted in Dr. Chauhan’s group has been submitted as over 30 patent applications, filed internationally, and has resulted in multiple startups, in addition to licenses taken by major companies.
